Meet Allan Anubi, a dedicated Cohort 3 Fellow at AEF Reuben Primary School, whose visionary project, Reuben Labs, revolutionizes education through technology. Since its launch in July, Reuben Labs has been a catalyst for change, equipping students and teachers with critical digital skills and resources.
Thanks to a successful partnership with Lisa Pope from Edmund Rice Australia, Allan’s project has received a generous donation of 20 laptops, a smart TV, a printer, and the refurbishment of four desktops. The ICT Resource Hub has also been revitalized with new desks and seating, creating an ideal learning environment.
Reuben Labs is structured to provide a progressive learning experience:
Level 1:
Students are introduced to foundational skills such as HTML and CSS, graphic design with Canva, app user interface design, and Scratch programming. This initial stage is designed to build a solid base in digital literacy.
Level 2:
As students advance, they explore JavaScript for developing websites and apps, and delve into game development, further honing their coding skills.
Level 3:
The final stage focuses on robotics, offering hands-on experience with advanced technology.
Currently, 25 students have nearly completed Level 1 content. They meet weekly and engage in intensive sessions during school closures and over weekends, demonstrating their commitment and enthusiasm for the program. Once these students transition to Level 2, new learners will be recruited into Level 1, ensuring a continuous cycle of growth and learning.
Allan’s initiative also prioritizes teacher empowerment. By equipping educators with digital skills and the ability to create educational materials, he addresses educational gaps caused by slow technological adoption and disruptions like pandemics.
The impact of Reuben Labs is set to expand with partnerships with STEAMLABS Africa, IHUB Africa, and Reuben Center, which will provide training, technical support, and robotics equipment for the coming year. Allan follows comprehensive training guidelines from W3Schools and Raspberry Pi, ensuring the curriculum remains cutting-edge and effective.
Allan Anubi’s dedication to integrating technology into education reshapes the future for his students and community. His commitment to fostering a tech-savvy generation through persistent efforts and innovative solutions is truly inspiring.
