Teach For Kenya champions a multidisciplinary approach to education reform. We view Teaching as Collective Leadership and students as the promise of a brighter future for all Kenyans.

1.THE TEACH FOR KENYA KENYA FELLOWSHIP: WHY AND HOW

The Teach For Kenya Fellowship program is a 2 year full-time paid commitment that places Kenya’s most outstanding graduates and professionals as teachers in our county’s most high-need schools. The Teach For Kenya Fellowship is a transformational leadership program that equips Fellows with transferable leadership skills to effect change beyond the classrooms in the communities they serve.

The two-year commitment is necessary to make the impact we intend to have on student achievement. In the first year, Fellows refine their teaching skills and establish respect and trust among various stakeholders within the school community and the students. This allows Fellows to achieve significant academic gains for students. In the second year, Fellows engage in their community projects to further their impact. During the two years, you will strive to transform the student, transform as a leader and transform your school and community.

In Kenya, there are numerous barriers that hold children back from realizing their full potential. They include:
• Only 2 in 5 grade 4 learners are at least meeting expectations in reading a grade 3 appropriate English text. (Source – Uwezo Annual Learning Assessment Report 2021)
• 5 in 10 learners in grade 4 meet expectations in solving grade 3 appropriate numeracy problems. - Uwezo Kenya Learning Assessment Report, 2021 2.5 million children aged 4-17 have never been to school. (MOE,2019 Education Situation Booklet).
• Children going through the Kenyan education system are losing an estimated three years of learning. When years of schooling are adjusted for quality of learning, this is only equivalent to 7.8 years, a learning gap of 2.9 years. This means Kenyan school-going children are having a learning loss of close to three years. Going to school doesn’t mean that children are learning and this is mainly because of the quality of education. (World Bank, 2019)

You should join Teach For Kenya in service to our country to ensure that one day every Kenyan child will receive quality education regardless of their socio-economic background.
